Privacy at Utility Lab isn’t a marketing claim - it’s an architectural property of how the product is built. Here’s exactly how it works.
Local-first processing
Every active tool in Utility Lab - Image, Text, Developer, and Measure - runs entirely inside your browser using client-side JavaScript, Web Workers, and Canvas APIs. When you resize an image or format some JSON, that computation happens on your device. The file or text you're working with is never transmitted to our servers.
No file uploads
We do not operate a file upload endpoint for any of our active tools. There is no server-side processing pipeline for images, text, or developer utilities to pass through. If a future tool genuinely requires server-side processing, we will clearly label it before you use it and explain exactly what is sent and why.
What we do collect
Like most websites, we may use privacy-respecting, aggregated analytics (e.g. page views, which tool categories are popular) to understand how the product is used. This data is not tied to the contents of any file or text you process, because we never see that content in the first place.
Cookies and local storage
We use minimal local storage in your browser to remember preferences like your light/dark theme choice. This data stays on your device and is not sent to us.
Third parties
We do not sell, share, or otherwise provide your files or text content to any third party, because we never receive it. Standard infrastructure providers (e.g. our hosting provider) may see typical web request metadata (IP address, browser type) required to serve the site, consistent with normal web hosting.
Changes to this policy
If our architecture changes in a way that affects how your data is handled - for example, if a future Video, Audio, or PDF tool requires server-side processing - we will update this page and clearly disclose it within the relevant tool before you use it.
